Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra Sweden 2007
'Making the Most of Your Magic' Presentation skills workshop about the signals we send.

Thank YOU for a very interesting and stimulating day! I was very pleased with the content and the effect it had on the group: I am sure all the thoughts a day like this generates will have a greater impact on the orchestra than maybe some of them even realize. I am also happy the reactions from the group were so positive.

2006 Managers’ Away Day - MAD

Q -  What did you enjoy most about the day?

A - “……One of the best MAD days so far

…...The whole day was excellent

……I thoroughly enjoyed the vocal section. It really made me think about how my voice sounds particularly when I'm stressed.

…….Singing as it uplifting.

.. ….I did enjoy the singing finale at the end of the day, It felt good doing something all together……..”

…….The Myers Briggs sessions. Gave me a huge insight into my personality and why I react the way I do to certain situations

…….Introduction to Myers Briggs type, covered more in-depth and helped me understand how it works and how useful it can be from team building to recruitment.

…….Discussing Type, I found this very interesting.  It was good to see our strengths, but also how others can perceive these strengths as weaknesses.

……The dancing. I hate dancing and feel very self conscious of things like that, but surprisingly it made me feel very good.

……So glad we did not have to do sport - which I was really worried about Thanks - must have taken a lot of organisation to get that together

……The dance section - good chance to think about what we were doing and why - and to bring us all together in one activity which showed very graphically how we are one team all trying to achieve the same goal.

‘Do You Read Me?’

‘Dear Phyllida……We very much enjoyed working with you and Bethan. It was certainly a new experience for many of us, and gave us some useful insights into hitherto unknown areas! Everyone here has been highly complimentary and appreciative of the personal skills, which you and Bethan brought to us…’

Fit for Performance Workshop Jane Oakshott wrote in the Spring Newsletter…

‘Teaching is a matter of giving out the whole time. Workshop days are like an oasis, allowing one to replenish the stocks of energy, knowledge and enjoyment.

They are one of the great assets if VCN membership, especially when as enjoyable and well-rounded as this one.

Fit for Performance was yet another new departure for the VCN in that it took a strongly holistic approach to voice and performance skills. The tutors, Phyllida Furse (Voice) and Bethan Rhys Wiliam (Dance), were from Sound Move, a company, which uses movement and voice training to help businesses improve their staff performance. Their style is upbeat, encouraging, hilarious and very professional and they gave the attendees a welcome opportunity to test their own boundaries, vocal and otherwise.

We were puzzled, at firs,t to know why calculators were required. But full-scale holistic means bringing in the intellect as well-- and we were put to gauging fat and protein content in so-called ‘slimmers’ foods. This section of the day was productive of some fascinating and appalling facts!…’

Herefordshire Education Department - Voicework

Phyllida delivered a vocal health and development workshop on behalf of Herefordshire Education Department to New Qualified Teachers in both primary and secondary sectors, in order to protect their health and safety at work. And is about to make her fourth return visit!

“Phyllida is a big hit with newly qualified teachers in Herefordshire who have learnt how to look after their voices and think about adopting healthier habits – after one hour they opt to drink water not coffee and they all stand up straighter..” Vicky Ward, Acting Senior Inspector, Herefordshire Education Department

Comments after one-to-one coaching:

Technical Manager Electronics company:
Tuesday was an interesting time ~ thank you. I have thought through it
several times since ~ the world does seem a different place ~ not sure
how/what/why as yet ~ still working it out ~ but I am conscious of having a
different perception. Not sure how analytical to be with the how/what/why
bits ~ I have been concentrating on the fact that things are different and
embracing the change.

Business Consulting Manager - large outsourcing company:
Jacqy, what can I say? I've spoken to T... and R.... and both are full of

Assistant Divisional General Manager NHS Foundation Trust:
I have been meaning to email for a while, to say thanks for the very
enjoyable few days I spent developing my leadership skills.

I was due to go for an interview for a new job. I am happy to say that I
got the job and it was due in no small part to the fantastic preparation I
received the week before. Even the values pyramid made an appearance on my
interview presentation!

I am sure I will continue to use all my new found skills in my new job!
